  • The Bay of Pigs Invasion

    The Bay of Pigs Invasion in Cuba was a botched operation. The mission set out to be a military invasion of Cuba and to make progress against Fidel Castro. It was a foreign policy fiasco and completely embarrassing the Kennedy administration (and America as a whole.)
  • The Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Cuban Missile Crisis occurred in late October 1962. The conflict was a 13 day political and military standoff between the United States and Russia. It was noted as the peak of the Cold War.
  • The Beatles

    In 1963, music group "The Beatles" rose to fame. They are considered to be world's most influentical group of musicians. Their band formed in Liverpool but made their way to the United States, where their fame peaked as a worldwide musical success.
  • Civil Rights Act

    On this date in 1964, the Civil Rights Act was put into effect. This is the greatest civil rights advancement in our country to date. It outlawed all discrimination against races, sexes, religions, or colors. It ended segregation in all places and equalized all American citizens.
  • First Heart Transplant in the World

    In 1967, the world's first human heart transplant was successfully achieved in South Africa. This medical achievement changed medicine and worldwide livelihood forever. This huge advancement is now performed countless times a day across the world.
  • Neil Armstrong on the Moon

    On the Apollo 11 mission to the moon, American Neil Armstrong became the first man to ever step foot on the moon. Actual video footage of Armstrong on the moon was available to citizens to watch at home. This occurrence changed space science and pushed for NASA to further efforts of discovery.
  • The Pentagon Papers are Exposed

    In 1971, the Pentagon Papers were exposed in the New York Times. The papers were proof that the U.S. government had been lying to the people about America's involvement in/with Vietnam. The top secret papers were released to the public and civilians were quite upset about what they were seeing.
  • Roe vs. Wade

    In 1973, a ruling was made over the Roe vs. Wade case and abortion was legalized in the U.S. The case tested the realms of the Constitution and was a very hard decision for the government to make. The topic is still very controversial today.
