The war would be intensified by the Cold War going on between the United States and the Soviet Union with the United States backing South Vietnamese forces and the Soviet Union backing North Vietnamese forces. The war would end with the communists seizing South Vietnamese forces.

    Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union over the USSR's placement of nuclear missiles in Cuba. The two countries would be involved in one of the most intense standoffs in history. The conflict would end with the Soviets removing all missiles and military equipment from Cuba. The Cuban Missile Crisis is the closest anyone has come to all-out nuclear warfare and marks the height of the Cold War.
  • Kennedy Assassinated, Johnson Inaugurated

    JFK is assassinated while driving in downtown Dallas, Texas. Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson would be inaugurated later that day.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964

    The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibited any form of discrimination based on race, religion, sex, or nation of origin. The Act would call for desegregation in all public places.

    Apollo 11 becomes the first crew to land on the moon. Niel Armstrong also becomes the first person to ever set foot on the moon.
  • Watergate

    The Watergate Scandal is one of the most infamous crimes ever committed by a U.S. President. The crime involved people affiliated with the Nixon administration wiretapping phones and stealing documents from the Democratic National Committee. Nixon would eventually get caught covering up the crimes and would eventually resign because of the scandal.
  • Nixon Resigns, Ford Inaugurated

    President Nixon becomes the first President to resign after the now-infamous Watergate scandal. Vice President Gerald Ford would be inaugurated later that day.
