This case of Brown vs. The Board of Education, was a key step to the road of civil rights. In this case, all 9 judges ruled in favor of Brown. Becuase of this, segregation in public schools was illegal under the 14th amendment. -

Emmett Till was 14 years old when he went to visit his family in Money, Mississippi, when he was kidnapped by two white men. He was brutally beaten and then shot in the head, the reason for this being that he flirted with a white female clerk. This caused an aproar in the African American community shortening the fuse of their patience. The two men where tried, but were acquitted. -

In 1955, Montgomery, Alabama, African Americans had to sit in the back of the bus, and whites sat in the front. If the bus was full then African Americans had to give up their seats to the whites. Rosa Parks sat in the middle of the bus, and when a white man asked her to get up she refused. The police were called and she was later arrested, provoking great distain in the African American community. -

On November 6 1956, Dwight D. Eisenhower ran with the Republican party for his second term, and won. He had recently led the creation of an armistance between North and South Korea and won by a landslide. His opponent was Adlai Stevenson, who was running with the Democratic party. -

In Little Rock, Arkansas nine African American students trying to attend Central High School were confronted by mobs of angry whites trying to keep the school segregated. Eventually Eisenhower sent the 101st airborn division to escort the children to school and all their classes. -

After the U.S. found missle silos built by the Soviet Union in Cuba, they reported it to the U.N. If missles were built there they would be able to reach almost all of the continental U.S. President John. F. Kennedy placed Cuba under quarantine, placing a blockade of ships around Cuba. If the Soviet Union crossed the line it would be an act of War. On the 28th the Soviet Ships turned around, evading war. -

At the 16th Street Baptist Church, in Birmingham, Alabama, four girls attended Sundau School. White supremesists had planted a bomb in the church and four girls (Denise McNair, Cynthia Wesley, Carole Robertson, and Addie Mae Collins) where killed, leaving the African American community furious and wanting thier civil rights. -

South Vietnamese President, Ngo Dinh Diem, was assassinated on November 2, 1963. Him and his brother went into hiding, eventually surrendering. Once they surrendered they where escorted but found by their enemy and killed. -

In Kent State University, Ohio, 4 students where killed by the American National Gaurd. They where called when thousands of students protested against the war. They were tear gased, and the Gaurd tried to seperate the crowd eventually leading to the deaths of 4 students and the wounding of 8 others. -
