Nathan Bedford Forrest founded the Ku Klux Klan.The KKK was known for wearing white bed sheets and riding their horses around at night. The bed sheets made them look like ghosts and the reason for their midnight rides was to scare black men and women into leaving the area. -

The official dates of America's involvement in the Vietnam War are 1961- 1973. More than 58,000 Americans died in the dispute. Many anti-war groups were formed as a result of American troops going to Vietnam as much of the American public did not agree with America's involvement. -

On June 11, 1963 the University of Alabama had it's first black students enrolled. The integration was not supported by Alabamian officials. The event is known as The Stand in the Schoolhouse Doors as George Wallace, the Democratic Governor of Alabama, literally stood in the doorway to try to keep the black students from entering. -

Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977. The King died of a drug overdose. He was found with multiple different barbiturates and narcotics in his system after his death. Presley's death left most of the country devastated. -

On December 8, 1980, John Lennon was murdered. Lennon was a member of the Beatles. He was killed by Mark David Chapman, an American prison inmate. Lennon was shot in New York City outside of the Dakota apartment building. -
