    Allied soldiers stormed the beaches of France to begin the World War II invasion of Europe. Which would lead to the liberation of Paris. This was the largest amphibious military operation in history.
  • The death of President Roosevelt

    President Roosevelt dies unexpectedly, and the Vice President, Harry S. Truman, assumes the presidency and role as commander in chief of World War II.
  • Germany Surrenders

    After a hard-fought battle, Germany surrendered. They surrendered in Reims, France, and concluded the military engagements of World War II in Europe.
  • The Truman Doctrine

    The Truman Doctrine is announced to the U.S. Congress. When it was passed it would grant $400 million in aid to Greece and Turkey to battle Communist terrorism.
  • NATO

    NATO, or the North American Treaty Organization, is formed. It was composed of the United States, Canada, and ten Western European nations. The treaty stated that any attack against one of these nations would be considered an attack against them all, so they would all work together.
  • The Korean War

    The Korean War begins when the troops of North Korea, backed with Soviet weaponry, invade South Korea. This led to a 3-year conflict, and the US decided to join the battle. The Air Force and Navy are ordered to the peninsula by President Truman.
  • Transcontinental TV

    The inauguration of trans-continental television occurred with the broadcast of President Truman's speech at the Japanese Peace Treaty Conference in San Francisco.
