The German Reichstag burns
The German Reichstag is a government building, and a young dutch communist was caught at the scene of the fire. Van der lubbe was the person who declared he had started the fire. At the time he was an unemployed bricklayer who recently arrived in Germany not long before the incident occurred.
Why: It is Important because it was a Government building owned by Hitler. Hitler used that as of why the Germans should hate the communists. -
Hitler becomes Fuhrer of Germany
After the death of the last German President, Chancellor Adolf Hitler came in the mix. He became absolute Fuhrer, or "Leader" of Germany,and swore that the Third Reich would last for a thousand years. Then just 11 years later Nazi Germany collapsed.
Why: This is important because when Hitler became Fuhrer all of the WWII crisis started. Also all of the concentration camps started. -
Roosevelt Relected President 1936
In terms of electoral votes it was the most lopsided victory in the U.S. It was the second biggest victory for the winner since the election of 1820. The election took place as the Great Deppresion entered its eighth year destroying the U.S.
Why: This is important because President Roosevelt was going to lead them into WWll. Also whoever won was goin to have to control th U.S. during this terrible time of depression and war. -
Soviet Union invades Poland
On the morning of September 17, 1939 Soviet Union invaded Poland from the east. The invasion lasted for the following 20 days and ended on October 6, 1939. The Red Army outnumbered the Polish and used strategic and Tactical Deception.
Why: I chose this because Poland's getting attacked by all sides of there country. Also it made the Americas mad. -
Soviet Union Attacks Finland
The Winter War was what this war was named by people all around the country. The League of Nations deemed the attack illegal. They ended up expelling the Soviet Union from the League of Nations on December 14, 1939
Why: This is Important because it made the U.S. want to get involved more. Then we became allies with Finland. -
German defeat at Stalingrad
In mid November 1942 Soviet forces launched a counter offensive against the Germas at Stalingrad. After months offierce figtng in Febrary 1943 with only aabout 91,000 soldiers surrendered. After teir defeat at Stalingrad it was a big turning pointfrGermany after so many victories there run was over.
Why its important: It is a major turning point in the war were Germany stops winning against everyone. -
Liquidation of the Krakrow Ghetto
In this operation te SS kill approximitey 2,000 Jews, and send the other 2,000 to Aushwiz Birkenau. There they pick about 499 men and 50 women for forced labor the rest get killed in the gas chambers.
Why it was important: It shows how jews were treated back then by people compared to everyone else. -
Operation Harvest Festival
All Jews that ended up staying in Lublin District of German-occupied Poland were killed. They were killed because the SS chief Heinrich Himmler decided I oul prevent further resitance. All of the other Jews were shipped off for forced labor.
Why it was important: This is important because it shows how one person can pick whether or not jews should die. -
Attempt to Assasinate Hitler
Colonel Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg left a bomb in a brief case during amiliitary briefing on theeastern front. After Hitler opened it he survived te rough blast and nothing happened to him.
Why its Important: It shows the failed attempt of trying t kill the worst leader in the world. -
Death March from Auschwitz
Towardsth end of th war th SS didn't want anyone to know about the Nazi concentration caps. They forced all of the ill & starving prisoners to march on and off cattles to h nxt concentration camps, even though many died off,they thought it was easier killing them.
Why its important-It shows they wanted to get rid of the Jews. -
