  • 19th Amendment

    19th Amendment
    The woman's suffrage movement can date back to 1638 with Margaret Brent, a successful businesswoman, demanded the right to vote. By 1920, every state west of the Mississippi River allowed women to vote. In August the state of Tennesse was the last state that was needed for a " Yes" for the ratification and in favor of 50-49 vote, the amendment was ratified.

    American sustained the worst terrorist attack in its history
    On September 16, 1920, a horse-drawn cart carrying a massive, improvised explosive was detonated on one of the busiest corners on Wall street. One person described "two sheets of flame that seemed to envelop the whole width of Wall Street and as high as the tenth story of the tall buildings." Thirty -eight people were killed in the attack, and hundreds were injured.
  • Sacco and Vanzetti Trial

    Sacco and Vanzetti Trial
    Charged with murder on May 5th and their trial started May 21, 1921. They were both Italian Immigrants that could have been wrongly accused of their race and beliefs. Both Men had people to back them up and prove that they were innocent but still got accused of murder.
  • Railway Strike

    Railway Strike
    In 1921 July 1st started the railroad strike also known as the Railway shopmen's strike. It lasted up until the first of September of that year. Seven of the sixteen major railway unions at the time joined together to protest wage cuts for railway maintenance workers. At the start of the strike, about 400,000 people walked off of the railroad.

    New York Yankee Stadium  Opening
    The first home game played at the original Yankee Stadium home of the New York Yankees played against the Boston Red Sox. It Is located in Bronx, NY, also known as the "Bronx zoo" It is known as "the house that Ruth built" one of the legends that played there. Babe Ruth help shape the team by leading them to seven world series in fifteen years.

    Every four years since 1924 we have winter Olympics events in the world competing against other countries. Each time it is hosted in a different country. They featured up to sixteen events with sixteen countries with a total amount of 258 athletes.
  • New Yorker Magazine

    New Yorker Magazine
    Harold W. Ross was the creator and original editor of the magazine and he remained the editor up until his death in 1951. It was originally created as a means to showcase the social culture and events of NY city but it became well known for its short stories, essays, and poetry. Today the magazine is known worldwide and featured many up and coming writers.

    Great Mississippi Flood
    Starting on April 15th of 1927 where 15 inches of rain fell in 18 hours. This flood affected ten states, mainly affecting
    Arkansas covering 14% of the land. This flood is also known as the Great Flood of 1927.
  • Jazz Singer

    Jazz Singer
    On October 6th, 1927 marked the end of the silent film era. On that day they opened the Jazz Singer the first film to use dialogue. It debuts in New York City Featuring Al Johnson in the lead role of Jack Robin. This business was a huge success.
  • Holland Tunnel

    Holland Tunnel
    In November of 1927, the Holland Tunnel opened connecting NY City and Jersey underneath the Hudson River. The new tunnel added another way to travel to Jersey and NY City. The toll was free to get out of Jersey but you had to pay a $6.00 toll to enter back into Jersey. The tunnel was named after the engineer who made the tunnel Clifford M. Holland.
