History, Traffic SignalOn this date in 1923, Garrett Morgan invented the first working electric traffic light. Morgan was the son of two former slaves and had a rough upbringing. When he was old enough to drive and purchase a car, he witnessed a horrible crash between two vehicles. This crash happened because the original traffic lights were manual signs with only a stop and go. From this point, Morgan decided to make an automatic light with three different colored lights, stop, slow, and go. -
