1910s- The Texas Rangers and the Mexican Revolution
In 1915, there were tensions and violence between Anglos and Mexicans along the Texas-Mexico border. The governor sent hundreds of Texas Rangers to the border who implemented their brand of lynch law. Without any trial or conviction, the Texas Rangers killed 300 "suspected Mexicans". 1945- Texas Medical Center in Houston
Texas Medical Center is the largest medical campus in the world. They serve about 7 million patients a year. Monroe D. Anderson bought land around Hermann Hospital in the early 1940s and by 1943, construction on MD Anderson began after Baylor joined the medical campus. 1958- The Texas Instruments and the Microchip
In 1958, Jack Kilby invented the first integrated circuit (IC) at Texas Instruments in Dallas, TX. This IC helps with safer cars, smart water meters, pocket-size ultrasound machines, smartphones, computers, and more. Many innovations in semiconductor technologies happened over several decades. 1963- The Assassination of John F. Kennedy
Dallas, Texas.
President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on 11/22/1963. He was shot while riding in a car with his wife, First Lady Jackie Onassis, and Texas Governor John Connally. Lee Harvey Oswald killed President Kennedy, but no one knows the reason why. Jack Ruby, a local nightclub owner, shot Oswald two days after the assassination.

1970- Oil Boom and Bust
Great wealth during Houston's oil industry. There were record crude prices after the Arab oil embargo of 1973 and the Iranian Revolution of 1979. Many jobs were opened, people got houses, etc. However, in the 1980s, the price of oil collapsed. Houston's economy struggled and people lost their jobs. Timetoast -
1973- Texas Monthly's First Issue
The Texas Monthly's first issue was in February 1973. Created by Michael R. Levy who wanted Texas to have a magazine like other cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York.
