    During the turn of the century, horse and mule power was the main source of power for getting farm work done. Some things needed more than a dozen animals to get it done.

    This bureau is responsible for the creation of dams, power plants, and canals in the 17 western states. It constructed over 600 dams and helped move along the development of the west.

    After spreading rapidly throughout the early 1900's, in 1903 it was discovered that it is an ultramicroscopic virus. This eventually led to its eradication.

    Following World War I, the need for agriculture education was high. This college was created to further agriculture education and helped people gain knowledge in the area.
  • Radio

    In the 1920's, Guglielmo Marconi and Canadian Reginald Fessenden are the two men that are credited with the creation of the radio. It took years of development to get the first radio broadcast on air.

    National Arboretum
    Congress established this organization as a part of the Department of Agriculture to "develop, cultivate, and preserve fast-growing pest- and disease-resistant strains of pulp trees, shrubs, and woody plants."

    This organization was created to reduced rail rates for hay, feed, and water and increased road and dam construction in drought areas. It was created as economic downfall started to set in.
