  • Inauguration of President William McKinley (second term)

    The 25th president of the United States. Inaugurated on May 4, 1897.
  • Period: to

    Spanish American War

    The war started due to a mysterious explosion on USS Maine. The explosion sparked a war between the United States and Spain.

  • U.S currency is placed on the gold standard

    Signed to establish gold as the only standard for redeeming paper money. To define and fix the standard of value of all forms of money coined or issued by the United States.

  • Platt Amendment

    It ended America's military occupation of Cuba. Cuba would have to sign a treaty which made them agree to 7 different conditions of the withdraw of the remaining United States troops.

  • Assassination of President William McKinley

    Assassinated by Leon Gzolgosz in Buffalo, New York, while shaking hands with the public.

  • Cuba Declares Indepedence

    Cuba gained its' formal independence from the United States and became the Republic of Cuba.

  • First Major League World Series of Baseball

    The Boston Americans faced the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first major league world series in a best of nine series.

  • Wright Brothers First Flight

    The Wright Brothers made 4 short flights at Kitty Hawk. The Wright Brothers had created the first successful airplane.

  • Panama Canal Zone

    The Panama Canal Zone is a piece of land the United States acquired through the Hay-Bunau-Varilla Treaty of 1903. It is a piece of land that would forever change how boats travel.

  • President Theodore Roosevelt Inaugurated (Second Time)

    It was his only full term as president. As well as the only term of Charles W. Fairbanks as vice president.

  • "The Jungle"

    Written by Upton Sinclair. Written to portray the harsh conditions and exploited lives of immigrants in the United States in Chicago and similar industrialized cities.

  • San Francisco Earthquake

    Though it was less than a minute the effects of the earthquake were immediate. The earthquake destroyed nearly 500 blocks of San Francisco.

  • The Antiquities Act is established

    The first law to establish that archeological sites on public lands are important recourses.

  • Oklahoma Becomes a State

    Oklahoma territory and Indian territory were merged together to become the state of Oklahoma.

  • NAACP is established

    National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was established to advocate for advancements for African Americans.

  • William Howard Taft Inauguration

    The inauguration of President William Howard Taft was held in the Senate Chamber at the United States Capitol in Washington D.C. William Howard Taft was the 27th president of the United States.

  • RMS Lusitania's first voyage

    Sunk by a German submarine when German submarine warfare was intensifying in the Atlantic Ocean.
