    The war started due to a mysterious explosion on USS Maine. The explosion sparked a war between the United States and Spain.
  • U.S currency is placed on the gold standard

    Signed to establish gold as the only standard for redeeming paper money. To define and fix the standard of value of all forms of money coined or issued by the United States.
  • Platt Amendment

    It ended America's military occupation of Cuba. Cuba would have to sign a treaty which made them agree to 7 different conditions of the withdraw of the remaining United States troops.
  • Assassination of President William McKinley

    Assassinated by Leon Gzolgosz in Buffalo, New York, while shaking hands with the public.
  • Cuba Declares Indepedence

    Cuba gained its' formal independence from the United States and became the Republic of Cuba.
  • First Major League World Series of Baseball

    The Boston Americans faced the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first major league world series in a best of nine series.
