An act passed that banned Chinese immigration for several years. The main cause of this was because the American people feared that the Chinese were taking their jobs opportunities. -
16th Amendment
In this amendment, it gave the U.S government the power to collect taxes on the basis of income. Meaning that the development of national income tax was created. -
Spanish-American War
The main cause of this war was because Spain refused to allow Cuba to become independent. The U.S. got involved in the war in order to support Cuba, there were several battles that ended in American victory. A result of the Spanish-American War was that the United States was now a world power. -
Annexed Hawaii
The United States government realized that Hawaii was a valuable resource for the American military bases and the economy. Things such as fruits and sugar plants were important to the boost in the economy. Standford B. Dole was the main person that annexed the state of Hawaii. -
17th Amendment
The citizens of the United States now directly elect the senators. By the people being able to elect the senators, it allowed for a balance of the power within the government. -

Sparked by the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria, this devastating conflict in Europe over militarism, nationalism, alliances, and imperialism. After attempting to remain isolated, the U.S. joins the fight after the sinking of the RMS Lusitania. -
Panamal Canal
A man-made waterway created by the United States that connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, allowing ships to avoid going around the tip of South America. The canal has allowed for the transportation of goods to move faster and smoother. -
18th Amendment
During the era of Prohibition, this amendment was created to forbid the manufacture, sale, or transportation of alcoholic beverages. -
19th Amendment
This amendment was the effect of the Women's Suffrage Movement. It allowed women to have the right to vote in elections for the president. -
21st Amendment
After the prohibition era ended the American people made it legal to drink, transport, and sell alcohol in the United States. -

A global conflict involving the Allies against the Axis Powers that was fought in northern Africa, Europe, and in the Pacific ocean. This war was the most devastating, because of events that happened within it. In the end, the Allies won the war. -
Pearl Harbor
The Japanese launched a surprise attack on the U.S. fleet in Hawaii that forced the U.S. to enter World War 2. The ship was called the RMS Lusitania, this ship was transporting more than a thousand passengers, of those 128 were Americans. -
D-day
The Allies excited the largest amphibious assault in human history in the northern France. Also known as Operation Overload, the successful landing gave the Allies another place from which to drive back the Nazi Germany. -

An extended political and economic conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union. Although fighting did occur in Korea and Vietnam, the term "Cold War" comes from the fact that there were never open hostilities between countries. -

A competition between the U.S. and the Soviet Union for supremacy in space exploration. The Space Race was symbolic for both countries as dominance in the race would be a sign of technological and ideological superiority. -
26th Amendment
This amendment moved the legal voting age from 21 down to 18. The main cause of this happening was because of the Vietnam War. -
9/11 Attack
Al-Qaeda terrorist, in a plot planned by Osama bin Laden, hijacked commercial planes and flew them into the two towers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. A fourth plane was intended to crash into the Capital Building, but it was taken back over by the passengers and crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. -
