  • Haymarket affair

    The Haymarket affair was the aftermath of a bombing that took place at a labor demonstration on Tuesday, May 4, 1886, at Haymarket Square in Chicago.
  • Sherman Antitrust Act

    The Sherman Antitrust Act made it illegal for companies to seek a monopoly on a product or service. It is an Anti-monopoly U.S. legislation which attempted to increase economic competitiveness.
  • Homestead Steel Strike

    The Homestead Steel Strike was an industrial strike that began on June 30, 1892, this was one of the most serious disputes in U.S. labor history. This strike was between the Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers and the Carnegie Steel Company. The ending result was a major defeat for the union and a huge setback to unionize steelworkers.
  • Spanish-American War

    Cuba rebelling against Spain ended them to declare war for their independence. Then, the sinking of an American ship forced the president to declare war on Spain.
  • First Open Door Note

    The First Open Door Note was written by Secretary of State John Hay. The policy of the open door note was that all foreign countries have equal access to commercial and industrial trade rights in China and requested that no nations create a sphere of influence in China.
  • Mass Immigration

    After the depression of the 1890s, immigration jumped from a low of 3.5 million in that decade to a high of 9 million in the first decade of the new century. Immigrants from Northern and Western Europe continued coming as they had for three centuries, but in decreasing numbers. After the 1880s, immigrants increasingly came from Eastern and Southern European countries, as well as Canada and Latin America.
  • Pure Food and Drug Act

    First the act was used for the manufactors to put everything that is contained on the packaging on the label. Then, the book "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair, the book then started the process of inspecting the food manufacturing and process to make sure evrything is being handled and made in a sanitary matter.
  • World War I Begins

    World War I can also be known as the First World War or the Great War. This war was centered in Europe from July 28, 1914 and lasted until November 11, 1918.
  • First Moving Assembly line

    The first moving assembly line was used in Henry Ford's Co. to make the car "Model T". It was used to make it less expensive to make the cars so they can be sold cheaper.
  • Panama Canal Opens

    The Panama Canal is a waterway that connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. France had originally started the constructin of the canal but later stopped due to the amount of deaths from all of the diseases from Panama City. Panama asuumed full responsibility of the canal on December 31, 1999.
  • 19th Admendment Ratified

    The 19th amendment guarantees all American women the right to vote. The amendment was passed by Congress on June 4, 1919, and ratified on August 18, 1920.
