    Russian Anti-Semitism spiked immigration of people of Jewish descent.
  • Immigration: Chinese exclusion law

    Law passed by President Chester A. Arthur on May 6, 1882. Prevented immigration of Chinese laborers. This built upon the Page act of 1875, which banned immigration of Chinese women.

    1894 to 1896, Influx of Armenian Christian immigrants due to the Ottoman Empire (Turkey) Massacres. Massacres resulted in over 80,000 deaths and over 50,000 orphaned children.

    Bureau of Immigration was created in March 2, 1895. Developed due to the rising difficulties of immigration and the rising conflict with the Philippines. Bureau of Immigration was also closely related to the Bureau of Customs. It created health rules for the people and products entering the United States.

    Utah was added as the 45th state on January 5th, 1896.
  • President: William McKinley

    25th President. Term lasted March 4, 1897 – September 14, 1901. Assassinated in 1901. President during the Spanish American war during 1989. Kept the gold standard alive.

    Lasted from April 21, 1898 – August 13, 1898. War started with the explosion of USS Maine in Havana Harbor in Cuba. It was primarily fought over Cuban independence. America put aside the Monroe doctrine and embraced Manifest Destiny
  • Annexation: Guam, Philippines, and Puerto Rico

    1899, The United States annexes: Guam, Philippines, and Puerto Rico. Result of the Philippines long conflict for Independence from Spain and then America. Annexation heavily influenced by Theodore Roosevelt.
