North gets California admitted as a free state, Slave trade prohibited in Washington D.C.Texas loses boundary dispute with New Mexico. Then the South gets No slavery restrictions in Utah or New Mexico territories, Texas gets $10 million, and Fugitive Slave Law. -
Publication of Uncle Tom's Cabin
By the time the book came out an eager public was waiting to buy it, and over 10,000 copies of the two-volume work were sold in the first week. The presses ran on 24-hour schedules, and before the end of the year, 300,000 copies had been sold in the United States. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
This act allowed people in the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to decide for themselves whether or not to allow slavery within their borders. Rival goverment had been started there. -
Bleeding Kansas
It was when the Kansas territory was the site of much violence over whether the territory would be free or slave, therefore they called it Bleeeding Kansas. -
Brooks/Summer Affair
Brooks became an instant hero in the South. He was the honored guest at testimonial dinners and amassed a large collection of canes sent to him from admirers, Sumner, for his part, was lauded as a near martyr in the North. Massachusetts re-elected him while he was still unable to take his seat in the Senate. -
Dred Scott Decision
The Dred Scott case was a famous case involving a slave that was living in Illinois which was a free state. Mr Scott basically sued for their freedom claiming that they were not free and did not win. -
John Brown's Raid
he led 21 men on a raid of the federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. His plan to arm slaves with the weapons he and his men seized from the arsenal was thwarted, by 36 hours later many where killed , browns was a man who would not be deterred from his mission of abolishing slavery. -
