    The Emancipation Proclamation was cheifly a declaration of policy,which,it was hoped would serve as an opening wedge in depleting the South's great manpower reserve in slaves and equally important,would enhance thr Union's cause in the eye's of European's,especially the British.In combination with subsequent Union victorie's,it ended all hopes of the Confederacy for recoginition from Britian and Frane.

    The United States Military forced 11,468 Navajos from Fort Canby Arizona to walk more then 300 miles to Bosque Redondo New Mexico. the weaker people who fell behind the military were either left to die or shot. Several hundred Navajo people died on this march. Even more died at Bosque Redondo, close to 2000.
