    The Missouri Compromise tried to keep the number of slave states and free states equal.Appealing to white southerners Washington promised his audience that he would encourage blacks to become proficient in agriculture,mechanics,commerce,and domestic service,and to encourage them to 'dignity and glorifying common labour.   • Dred Scott Case

  • Andersonville Prison

    During the Civil War, a confederate prison was established in Macon County,in Southwest GA,to provide relief for the large number of Union prisoners concentrated in and around Richmond.The camp held the largest prison population of its time,with numbers that would have made it fifth largest city in the Confederacy.
