What happened in the USA through this time -
Nat Turner's Rebellion
A rebellion led by Preacher Nat Turner, slaves rebelled against their slave owners. The rebellion ended with a total of 55-65 white people dead, and Nat Turner executed. There were even tougher laws against slaves afterwards. -
Underground Railroad
A system of freeing enslaved people. The most well-known conductor was Harriet Tubman, who escaped slavery in 1849 and became a conductor afterwards. They would free black people by helping them escape north where they could be free. -
Abolitionism
In the 1830s, abolitionism became popular. Abolitionism was the movement to abolish slavery. The movement started rising and kept getting more and more support from the people and anti slavery groups. An example of something that made abolitionism popular is Uncle Tom's Cabin. -
Seneca Falls Convention
The first convention where men and women attended to talk about the rights of women. In this convention, the speech Declaration of Sentiments was made. A speech that used a remade form of the Declaration of Independence. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott organized the event. More than 300 men and women attended the convention. -
Franklin Pierce
He becomes president, but he mishandles the country. Leading to controversies and problems within it. He Caused Bleeding Kansas, and didn't get reelected. James Buchanan became president afterwards. -
Bleeding Kansas
A conflict where the territory of Kansas was going through a problem between having slavery and applying popular sovereignty. The conflict got hostile and there were fights in Kansas for 5 years. The conflict ended when Kansas became a free state. -
Abraham Lincoln & Civil War Starts
Abraham Lincoln becomes president after beating John C in the elections. Some weeks before he became president, the Civil War had started after James Buchanan wasn't able to control the conflict between the north and the south. -
Lincoln Is Reelected
In the last days of the Civil War, Lincoln was reelected as president. Leading the North through all of the Civil War. Meanwhile, in the south Jefferson Davis was president of the Confederate States. -
Civil War Ends
On April 9, the civil war ended with the North winning. With this, slavery had been abolished and all slaves were free, but they were still segregated. The southern states went back to the union and the US was put back together. -
Lincoln's Assasination
6 days after the war ended, Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth while attending a show in the Ford's Theater. John was an actor who believed Lincoln's actions were unconstitutional. He attempted to kidnap him but failed, he then assassinated him.
