  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    Thomas Jefferson bought a large amount of land in the west from France. This land stretched from the Mississippi River in the east to the Rocky Mountains in the west and from the Gulf of Mexico in the south to the Canadian border in the north. People from the eastern states then moved out west.
  • Ohio Becomes a State

    Ohio Becomes a State
    Ohio was granted statehood in 1803. It had to go through the Enabling Act which was passed in 1802
  • War of 1812

    The British fought the the United States. They went to war because Of Britains impressment on US naval ships. Northeast Ohio was big in the Battle of Lake Eire. The US won which helped them in the war.
  • The city of Akron

    The city of Akron
    The city was founded in 1825 by Simon Perkins. He founded the city where it is because of its perfect location by the canals. Akron would eventually become the Rubber Capital of the world.
  • Civil War

    The Civil War split the United States in half. The northern states fought the southern states over the disarmament of slavery. Cleveland played a huge role in supporting the north by fiving the, troops, food, and equipment.
  • The Ohio State University

    The Ohio State University
    Founded in 1870 as a land-grant university in accordance with the Morrill Act of 1862 under the name of Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College.
  • Standard Oil

    Standard Oil
    The Standard Oil Company was founded by John D. Rockefeller. It was the largest oil refiner in the world of its time. This company made Rockefeller one of the richest men in the world. Rockefeller spent most of his life in northeast Ohio.
  • Buchtel College

    Buchtel College
    The college started with 46 students in the collegiate program and 171 in the academy, a preparatory program. This was the first college in Akron. This college ended up turning into Akron University.
  • Goodyear

    Goodyear
    The founder was Frank A. Seiberling and he founded it when he was 38 years old. It started with just 13 employees who made bicycle and carriage tires and horseshoe pads. It was founded in Akron and became one of the biggest tire companies in the world.
  • World War 1

    It was also known as The Great War. The Allied Forces fought the Central Powers. The US joined the war on the Allied Forces side and helped them win the war. Ohio helped by giving soldiers and equipment.
  • Cleveland Indians

    The Indians started as a minor league team in Michigan. The twam moved to Cleveland in 1900. They became the Indians in 1915 and played in the American League.
  • Cleveland State University

    Cleveland State University
    It started in 1929 and had an attendance of 2,500 students. It wasn't established as a state-assisted university until 1964
  • Great Depression

    Great Depression
    A severe worldwide economic depression that took place during the 1930s. The depression took place right after the stock market crashed. This obviously effected Ohio because everyone in the US wa hurt by this.
  • World War 2

    World War 2
    This war ended the League of Nations. The Allied Leaders fought the Axis Leaders. The US was on the Allied side and helped win the war. Three Ohioans won Congressional Medals of Honor for their heroism during the attack on Pearl Harbor, including Rear Admiral Isaac Campbell Kidd of Cleveland, Machinist's Mate First Class Robert R. Scott of Massillon, and Seaman First Class James Richard Ward of Springfield.
  • Cleveland Browns

    Cleveland Browns
    They were founded by Arthur B. McBride. The first coach was Paul Brown. They played in the AAFC. They did very well in the first 4 seasons with a record of 47-4-3.
