  • Thomas Jefferson as President

    Jefferson is elected for President on Dec 3 in 1800. Jefferson was part of the Democratic-Republic Party. In this election he defeated John Adams.
  • The start of the War of !812

    The British kept holding to much power over the Americans. The two issues that sparked the war of 1812 are the desire for the Americans to keep it's position in the as a neutral trading nation. Especially during the Anglo French wars. The second was had to do with the roots of the colonies during the Revolution. Both lead to the conflicts with the British.
  • The bombarding of Fort McHenry

    The British bombarded the American Fort McHenry. However, the Americans repelled the British's 19 ship felt, while staying virtually unscathed. During this battle Francis Scott Key wrote the verses of what would become the national anthem, called “The Star Spangled Banner.”
  • Treaty of Ghent

    This treaty essentially returned relations between US and England to it's prewar status. Meaning it ended the War of 1812. Although this was signed after the Americans won.
  • Missouri Compromise

    This settled the argument over weather which areas would allow slavery. The solution was that it prohibited slavery in certain areas. 36 30 longitudinal lines. There for, it was split between antislavery states and slave states.
  • Dealing the Louisiana Territory

    Thomas Jefferson authorized the acquisition of Louisiana from France, which would become his first crowning achievement of his presidency. Jefferson wanted to buy the Territory to give American's accuse to New Orleans because of it's port. In the end, Napoleon offered to sell the entire Louisiana Territory for $15 million which is roughly equivalent to $250 million today.
  • The Liborator

    The Liberator" was established by William Lloyd Garrison in 1831. It was a newspaper to object slavery. Garrison fought slavery by standing up for Black colonization and gradual abolition. He wrote the Liberator as a way to promote antislavery. The Liberator sparked a crusade that fought for immediate expulsion of slavery.
  • The Gold Rush

    James W. Marshall discovered gold on Jonathan A Sutter’s sawmill land in the Sacramento Valley which is an area of the California Territory. This caused the Gold Rush to spark and crowds of people to flood to the West
