Louisiana Purchase
This was an acquisition of land from the French by Thomas Jefferson. This purchase nearly doubled the landmass of the U.S For the low price of $15 Million. This purchase by the Third president allowed for a new exploration of North America as can be seen by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. -
War of 1812
This was a war between the British Empire and the United States. It was fought over the fact that the U.S restricted trade with Britain and the fact that Britain kept forcing American sailors to join their navy. Fear that the U.S. would annex Canada was another factor that contributed to the war that saw the White House in flames, the British beat in New Orleans, and the creation of the Star-Spangled Banner. -

Trail of Tears
1832 was the start of the Trail of Tears. This was the culmination of the Indian Removal Act. This was the name that is used to describe the forced exodus of the Cherokee Nation from their home. They were forced to move from Georgia and moved to Oklahoma. This tragedy cost the lives of many Native Americans. -
The Mexican War
This war was a conflict between the U.S. and Mexico. It was the culmination of a border dispute between the two nations. It ended two years later with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. America paid for a significant landmass at the end of the war. They gained the land that would one day encompass many future states. -
The Compromise of 1850
The compromise of 1850was a series of bills passed the Congress to alleviate the conflict between free and slave states. The issue was centered primarily on the Western territories attained during the Mexican War. -
The Civil War
This was a conflict that saw the North and South pitted against each other over the issues of slavery, the right to secede, and reuniting the Union. This war ultimately eliminated slavery but at the cost of upwards of 851,000 lives. This was the bloodiest conflict in American history. It ended in 1865. -
Lincoln's Assassination
Abraham Lincoln the 16th president of the United States was assassinated in the Ford Theater while watching a play. He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth an actor. Lincoln died the morning after he was shot. -
The Battle of Little Bighorn
This was a crushing defeat of the 7th cavalry regiment by the hands of the Sioux, Lakota, Cheyenne, Arapaho tribes. this battle cost the lives of approximately 270 American soldiers including Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer.
