    The constitution convention was a convention of delegates from all the states except Rhode Island. They met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in May of 1787. They called this convention/ meeting because they thought that this was the best solution to the country's problems.

    It is Federalist-controlled Congress passed four laws, known collectively as the Alien and Sedition Acts. These laws raised the residency requirements for citizenship from 5 to 14 years, authorized the president to deport "aliens," and allowed their arrest.

    Thomas Jefferson defeated John Adams in the presidential election of 1800 by a vote of seventy-three to sixty-five. Because electors could not choose between president and vice president when voting before to the Twelfth Amendment. Jefferson and Aaron Burr received the same number of votes in the Electoral College. With the vote tied, the presidential election was then decided by the House of Representatives.
