1763 - 1774

  • Proclamation of 1763

The Proclamation of 1763 was a line that was marked in the Appalachian Mountains to stop the Anglo American Colonists from trying to live on the west part of this land. They did this because this would make the Indians feel better about the settlers. The reason why is because they did not want the settlers or colonists on this part of their land. The colonist agreed with the Indians ask for no settlers on their land.
  • Sugar Act

The Sugar Act was put into play because the British wanted to stop the trading of sugar and molasses with the French and West Indians. This was not truly pointed to the colonist but it was made for them to be aware of what the British could do. The Colonists were not happy with how Parliament did this to them because in the way they understand it and interpreted it was that they were given a restriction on what they could trade and there justice. It was a way for Britain to gain money.
  • Currency Act

The currency Act was a way for Britain to try and keep control of the colonists from making any money because truly what this act did was stop the making of currency and making sure that the people keep using the same British paying method of pounds without anything new for them. The colonist hated this act because this limited the colonist to currency because there was a certain limit that no could pass since they would be taking to much money from the rest of the colonist.
  • Stamp Act

The Stamp Act was where Parliament decided to tax anything that would need a stamp to be mailed or sent over seas. So it would include legal papers, newspapers, plans, dice, pamphlets, playing cards, or love letters. It was pretty much anything like playing cards, dice, pamphlets. All this lead up to the colonist not having any representation and the made a saying for that and it was "No Taxation without Representation." It also helped lead the way for the Stamp Act Congress to be established.
  • Quartering Act 1765

The Quartering Act was when Great Britain made the colonists take in the British soldiers into their homes and give them food and shelter. Which the colonists had no say so in what happened. Some of the colonists refused to allow the soldiers in the homes and that lead them to getting arrested. The colonists also felt that when they brought the soldiers into their homes they were scared and worried that the danger would be brought to their home and they would be just collateral damage in war.
  • Declaratory Act

This is when Parliament passed a act that would allow them to pass laws that would affect the colonists without their say so in what laws could and could not be passed due to the affect of the colonies. All this did was make the colonist more mad because now it was for sure that the colonist had no say in what was to happen to there futures. Also this act was passed as a way to declare that Parliament had the power to make laws that would govern the colonists.
  • Townshend Act

This is when Britain started to tax anything that was imported for Britain to America like tea, lead, oil, paint, paper, glass and sugar. The colonist did not agree with this and so they stop buying all the goods that were coming from Britain. Also with this act it granted the British Officials the right to search colonists homes and businesses while also establishing new courts that would be used to prosecute smugglers.
  • Boston Massacre

The Boston Massacre was when a fight broke out against the colonists and the British officers which end up killing five colonists. But this did not mean anything to the British Army because they were told to scare the colonists so that they would send a signal that the British think they are on top and that the people fear them but that is not true. The colonist did not like this because they took five of there people but all this do was create more anger towards Great Britain.
  • Boston Tea Party

The Boston Tea Party was when 150 protesters boarded the three ships that shipped the tea and they dumped 342 chests of tea into the Boston harbor which the total cost for this protest was 18,000 sterling. The colonists were upset because the harbor was shut down and the colonists could not get anything from Britain until the tea was payed off. This act was passed as a way to benefit the East Indian Company by providing them a monopoly in the Colonies through the tea market.
  • Intolerable Act

The Intolerable Act was when Britain had decided on the best way to punish the colonies for not paying the taxes that they would close the harbor and not allow ships in or out of the harbor. So there was no importing or exporting goods. So for the colonist that meant that they would not be making any money or trades because they had nothing new coming in. This act included 5 acts the Boston Port Act, Massachusetts Government Act, Quebec Act, Quartering Act, and Administration of Justice Act.
  • The Quartering Act of 1774

This is one of the Intolerable acts that made the colonists take in the British soldiers again for the second time. This all meant that they had to feed them and shelter them because if not they were charged for not obeying the law. The colonists were scared and worried that the war and soldiers were bringing them danger to there homes and families because the solders were not grateful for what the colonists had to do to help them.
  • Quebec Act

The Quebec Act was when the British extended the Quebec region which they would then make sure the the Catholics and Indians would get there rights no matter what. The region they took over went all the way from the Mississippi River to the Ohio river. The colonist lost the right to the harbor and then soldiers were put into their homes and now they had no way to stand for America because all the decisions were taken place in Britain and the colonists had no way to get there without the ships.
