  • Proclamation Act

    Proclamation Act
    This act prevented colonist from buying and settling in the west of the Appalachians, where the proclamation line stands. The colonies felt as if this act was to keep them under control and limit them, in result they rebelled against this law and took wagons towards the west.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The sugar act imposed duties on foreign wines, coffee, sugar, textiles, and indigo, items that are imported into the colonies. It required colonial vessels to fill out papers explaining what they carry and their destination. Due to this act colonist started a protest against it and also some colonist started to smuggle in sugar.
  • Currency Act

    Currency Act
    This act did not allow colonial governments to print or distribute paper money. Also, it required that all taxes and debts to British merchants to be paid in British currency. Due to this the colonist started a protest against it along with a protest against the sugar act. Colonist also refused to pay.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This act required a tax stamp on legal documents, calendars, newspapers, pamphlets, cards, dice, ect. This was the first direct tax parliament laid onto the colonies. Due to this act colonists boycotted British goods and scared stamp distributors into resigning and protested against it.

    This act made colonial governments put up with British soldiers staying in unoccupied buildings while providing them with candles, bedding, and beverages. But it did prohibit solders from staying in private homes. The colonist did not like the idea of having a "standing army" in the colonies.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    This act allowed parliament to enforce laws onto the colonies. It gave the parliament more power over taxes in the colonies. The colonist saw this act as a threat to their independence.
  • Townshed Act

    Townshed Act
    This act imposed taxes on the imports of glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea of the colonies and expanded the customs service. Due to this act the colonist organized boycotts against it and stopped buying imported British goods to avoid paying taxes.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was a street fight between colonist and British soldiers. Where British soldiers fired onto the crowed and killed 5 colonist and wounded six. Colonies were angered by this incident and used it as propaganda in order to make the British seem more as the bad guys.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston tea party was an event were colonist disguised themselves as Indians and got onto ships to dumped 342 canisters of British tea into the Boston harbor. The colonial response to this act was that many praised this protest but some also saw it as a destructive action.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    This act allowed royal governors to find homes and places to house British soldiers, and allowed British soldiers to be housed in private homes and facilities but not against the owners will. The colonist were enraged because of this act and feared that the soldiers were there to control them.

    Intolerable Act (Coercive Acts)
    This act was a series of 4 laws passed by the parliament in order to punish colonist for the Boston tea party, these laws were made to isolate Boston from the other colonies. The colonial response was a show of unity from each other.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act
    This act enlarged French Quebec to cover the area that was far west as the Mississippi River and as far south as the Ohio River. It allowed French law to prevail there and the Catholic Church to have privilege status. The colonist saw this act as intolerable because they took it as a threat to their government and independence.
