The Royal Proclamation of 1763 (Oct. 7)
The Royal Proclamation of 1763 reserved all the western territory between the Allegheny Mountains, Florida, the Mississippi River, and Quebec for use by Native Americans . The colonies said that it took their rights from them since they couldn’t travel anymore. -
Sugar Act
The sugar act taxed imports such as wines, coffee, textiles, and indigo that were imported into the colonies. Britain required colonial vessels to fill out papers for their cargo and their destination.
The colonies responded by protesting in Massachusetts. -
Currency Act
This act prevented the colonies form making their own form of currency. The colonies petitioners to repealed this act. -
Stamp Act
This taxed paper documents such as newspapers, almanac, broadsides, legal documents, pamphlets, dice, and playing cards. The colonies rebelled and protested. -
Quartering Act
This act allowed British soldiers to stay in the colonist houses. The colonists were forced to let them stay and feed them. They were also taxed for the barracks. The colonies felt like they were given no privacy. -
Declaratory Act
This made taxing in America and Great Britain the same. The colonies didn’t have much of a problem with this. -
Townshend Act
This Act put a tax on glass, lead, paint, paper and tea. The colonial response was to boycott the materials. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston massacre was when British soldiers and civilians had a street fight. Laborer apprentices, and merchant sailors began to throw snowballs and rocks. This ended with five civilians dead. This them lead to the Revolutionary war. -
Boston Tea Party
British tea ships were sent into the Boston harbor. Many citizens didn’t want the tea since they would be taxed for it. England refused to send it back and on December 16 a group of men disguised as Natives dumped all the tea into the harbor. -
Intolerable Act
This act was made to punish the colony of Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party. -
Quartering Act of 1774
This allowed ALL soldiers to be housed in the colonies. The colonies didn’t like this because it invaded their privacy. -
Quebec Act
This act was made to get rid of loyalty oaths and it also have people religious freedom. The colonial government wanted the people to cause a revolution because their rights were being violated.
