Currency Act
The Currency Act is passed by the British parliament. It bans American colonies from printing their own money causing restricting trade. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act imposes tax on legal documents, newspapers and playing cards. The Americans protested and boycotted British merchants. -
Boston Tea party
The British East India Company sends 3 shiploads of tea to Boston. On 16 December men dressed as Indians board the ship and dump the tea in the sea. -

British declare that the state of Massachusetts is in a state of rebellion. -
American Revolution
The 13 colonies declared independence from Great Britain. This war was due to the colonies high taxes, British policies, and distance from England. The war would end with victory for the colonists and the creation of USA -
Declaration of Independence
Colonies draw up state constitutions to replace their charters. On 4 July the Declaration of Independence is adopted by the Continental Congress. -
Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris ends the War of Independence. -
Constitution Convention
Was held in Philadelphia, to discuss ways to strengthen the national government. But instead of revising the articles of confederation, they replaced it with the Constitution. -
Small states vs. Large states
Large states believed that congress should be composed of two houses. And delegates should be assigned according to population.
Small States believed a congress of one house should be preserved. And each state should have one vote -
Kentucky
Kentucky becomes the 15th state. -
The Cotton Gin
Eli Whitney was an inventor who made the cotton gin. The invention of the cotton gin increased cotton plantation's productivity putting more on the need to use African Americans as slave labor. This invention increased slavery in the southern U.S. as well as plantations that produced cotton. -

The Texans rebel against the Mexicans. -
California Gold Rush
A man named James Marshall claimed to have discovered gold in a river in California. As new spread men, and families rushed to the supposed riches in California. While most struck out, it did create a new population of immigrants in California. -
Civil War
The Civil war was a dark time in America's history. Caused by the southern slave-holding states, this war lasted 4 years. The largest impact the Civil War had on North America was that it abolished slavery in America.
