1700-1800

  • North and South Carolina Become Royal Colonies

    The King bought the two colonies from the colonists, and the colonies were then under British rule. They followed Britian law, not the colony laws.
  • The French and Indian War

    The war was fought between the British colonies and the French colonies over the Ohio River Valley, This war is considered a smaller part of the Seven Years War which was happening in Britain at the same time. This war ended with the British colonies controlling the Ohio River Valley.
  • The Sugar Act

    Parliament passes the Sugar Act which reduced yet reinforced the previous taxes from the molasses act. The colonists did not like this act.
  • The Stamp Act

    British Parliament passes the stamp act which taxes any printed products that the colonists print. This act causes the colonists to become very angry and is one of the direct reasons for the Revolutionary War.
  • Townshend Acts

    British Parliament passes an act taxing tea, glass, lead, and all paper products imported to the colonies. This act caused many uprisings and resulted in American merchants boycotting the act.
  • Boston Massacre

    A group of British soldiers was stationed at Boston because of the uprisings over the taxes. A group of people surrounded the soldier's ad threatened them. Although no one knows what exactly started the shooting, the British soldiers eventually opened fire on the people. This resulted in three deaths, ad wounded eight people. Two people later died from their wounds resulting in five dead.
  • Tea Act and Boston Tea Party

    Britian passes an act taxing all tea that the colonies use. Resulting from this the colonists' revolted and the Sons of Liberty organized a group of people to board ships and toss all the tea over the board as an act of rebellion.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Parliament is angered because of the Boston Tea Party so they pass a set of acts in retaliation. These acts closed down the port of Boston and took away Massachusetts political rights.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    The first battles between the Britsh and Colonies.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence is written and accepted within the colonies during the second continental congress.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris ends the American War for independence which results in America getting their freedom from Britian,
  • The Constitution

    The Constitution is written and decided upon during the Constitutional Convention. This document decided how the government was going to be run.
  • Fist President

    George Washington is elected the first president of the United States.
  • Second President

    John Adams is elected the second president of the United States following George Washington's 8th year as president.
