Berlin Blockade
The Berlin blockade refers to a period during the Cold War when the Soviet Union blocked the railways, roads and canal paths to part of Berlin that was being controlled by Western Allies. Their aim was to force the western powers to allow the Soviet zone to start supplying Berlin with food, fuel, and aid, thereby giving the Soviets practical control over the entire city. -
Berlin airlift
West Berlin, the U.S. and its allies decided to supply their sectors of the city from the air. It lasted for more than a year and carried more than 2.3 million tons of cargo into West Berlin. -
