The Dark Ages were at an end and it was the beginning of a new era for the Greeks. It was the start of the Archiac Age which translates to old age. It was a time where the Greeks were repairing and bringing the flow back to Greece. -

the spartans
In Frank Frost's Greek Society, he called the Spartans "an experiment in elitist communism." The Spartans were largely known for their military strength and their sometimes cruel ways of ruling. Like, young boys trained in barracks since they were seven and if they suffered any injuries, they were left in nature to die. -

the athenians
Athens was a very sophisticated society that celebrated art, music, and drama. They were also known as the "Birthplace of Democracy". And, although the democracy in Athens would be unfair and unjust by today's standards, it was an important stepping stone in governmental structure. -

thales
Thales is known as the first scientist of Greece. He was one of the first to believe that natural disasters were created and explained through science rather than the belief that the gods created them. Furthermore, in 585 BCE, Thales successfully predicted a solar eclipse because he was such a great astronomer. -

the classical age
The Classical Age showed great growth for the Greeks in many cultural aspects including art and architecture. But, they probably say the greatest advances in philosophy. Many great philosophers came from this time including Plato and Aristotle. -

socrates
Socrates was arguably one of the most influential philosophers during the Classical Age. He created many important philosophical works including the Socratic Method. -

Thurydides
Thurydides was an influential person who is known as the "father" of all history. He wrote many important things about Greek culture and it helped give us an insight into them. -

the peloponisian war
The Peloponnesian war was an important war that was fought between Athens and Sparta. During this battle, we saw lots of unexpected alliances like Sparta and Persia. But, inevitably the Spartans claimed victory and the Athenian empire was never the same. -

King Phillip ll
King Phillip ll of Macedonia was probably most famous for his conquest of Greece and because he was the father of Alexander the Great. Many of his ideas and teachings are present through Alexander the Great's leadership and ruling tactics. -

Alexander the Great
Alexander the Great is one of the most famous leaders of all time and easily the most famous from the Hellenistic period. He lead the Greeks to many victories. And, he managed to keep his followers and conquered people happy by allowing them to keep their traditions and cultures.
