The Bachelor/Bachelorette Party
The first evening I try to spend with you, and I spill a Miller Light down your shirt. I get bar rags. I want to spend all of my evening with you, but I'm shut down by gay Scott. Of course. That's us (plus Jenni) on the right. I'm already trying to work that Adam Moore magic on you. You're not buying it. -
Phil and Molly's Wedding
I of course missed my chance to escort you down the aisle (Andy got there first), so I spent the rest of the wedding and reception eyeing you from afar while you had a great time with "Smilin' Randy." You heartbreaker, you. You spilled alcohol all over a crowded table at the reception. They had to change the table cloth. ha! -
The 4th of July
I finally call you after the wedding, after convincing Jenni to give me your number. I'm nervous, so I start things out with a text-messaged pot joke (nice). We spent a pleasant 4th of July evening texting each other, the first of many. -
The Pre-Date
When we finally spend our first evening together, we take a walk downtown to Atlas for a nice dinner, and we finish things off at the Yacht Club for a show with Daddio. We talk the whole time -- politics, The Office, -- and it felt amazing. -
The First Date!
After our pre-date, we decided to have the official night in Davenport. We spent some time drinking absolutely blitzing drinks in The District (only a $1 for another shot of vodka? Fuck yes!). We played "Questions" with the bartender before heading back to Davenport for some kareoke with J.B. Worst first date ever. Brie informs me that I do not have to call her again. We spend the next day discussing our hangovers and planning our next date -
Emilia's Wedding
Okay, so I dragged you to my family's wedding -- the first big one in years, everyone is there. You were a total sport about it, and we proceed to get trashed along with hundreds of other family members you'll never remember. You looked absolutely gorgeous that night. We made out in a nook of the hotel, before my mother came downstairs in a t-shirt inquiring about the hot tub I slept on your chair and wished I could climb into your bed. -
It's Official
On August 1st, we finally decide to make it official: we are together. You change your Facebook profile and urge me to get it so I can change my status too. We decide on the 1st, as it ensures that I will have less trouble remembering it down the road. It's exciting; I am very much in love with you at this point, but I don't want to screw anything up, so I try to keep my mouth shut. -
First Visit to Wapello
It's my first time down to meet your family and hang on your own turf. I am nervous and excited at the same time, both because I get to meet the most important people in your life. I try to act right. I also meet your brother, who is a goofball. We drive half an hour to dinner, and I think your dad is just trying to drive me into the country where he can take care of the punk trying to date his daughter. To my relief, he does not. Dinner at the Charthouse is delicious, p.s. -
The Iowa State Fair
My first experience of the Iowa State Fair, thanks to Brie. Also my first experience with the butter cow; I am tackled by security after trying to spread it on toast. We see a lot of livestock; I learn things about cattle. We saw a bulls balls, which makes me wonder how he puts up with dragging those things all over the place. It's a really fun day. We ride the sky tram around the park (or whatever it's called). I eat a corndog. We make love for the first time that evening. -
The Sprague Party
Brie's first time meeting the coworkers, we have one hell of a party out at the Sprague estate. Lots of beer, lots of food. Some tequila shots. Brie and I briefly make out in the upstairs bathroom. -
First day on the river\first fight
We spent a great day on the river with your folks and Doug and Kim. That is, before the storms rolled in. Some crazy thunder and lightning soaked us all, and put us in a bad enough mood that we quarreled the rest of the afternoon. A real shame; I'm excited to get on the river again (I even bought new swimming trunks!) -
Brie buys a bike!
After some thought, and a little goading from me, Brie decides to buy a bike. We head on down to Hall's where the salesman asks how the bike feels above "your lady parts." The bike leads to some great rides, including a nice ride along the Mississippi and a hilarious downhill adventure (including Brie freaking out). -
UNI Homecoming
Our first homecoming spent together, we return as esteemed graduates of Northern Iowa. Lots of fun, plenty of booze and sleeping in a basement. I have to buy a super large UNI shirt, as the Iowa shirt I had did not cut it. You rightly call me an idiot. -
Brie's big promotion!
You get your first big promotion at the MVRBC, after only a short time working there. I'm very excited for you; I imagine you throwing your hat into the air like Mary Tyler Moore. Then I realize you don't wear hats. -
Halloween
We dress up as Bret Michaels and Heather as a "couples outfit". I try to draw a tattoo on the back of your neck, but it smudges horribly. You get wasted at the Yacht Club! Woohoo! -
Chicago Trip
We made it to Chicago for an icy weekend, full of drinking and smoking. And trying to get fresh with you on an inflatable mattress. "Hey, HEY! That's my boyfriend's lighter!" -
Our first bath
After a long weekend in Chicago, we settle in for our first bath together. With lots of bubbles, candles and some Sigur Ros in the background, it quickly becomes one of our favorite activities. Even if we never really get clean. When's the next one? -
Our First Christmas
It's our very first Christmas, and I am nervous as hell, because I'm terrible at presents. So I buy one for myself, and boy is that a massive miscalculation. I've single-handedly ruined our first Christmas. But you assure me that you still love me, anyways. I think I got you more bath salts. I'm sooo original. -
Christmas Lunch with the Barricks
Adam joins the Barrick family for Christmas -- it was supposed to be dinner, but some rescheduling moved the festivities to lunch (to Kathy's initial despair). Lots of great gifts -- among the highlights were the teapot and the musical toothbrushes. Which I still use, FYI -
New Year's Eve
We have everyone (that matters) down to Iowa City for the New Year's Party of a lifetime! Takanami and The Sanctuary are the only locations I remember from the evening, but I know there were more. At the Mill, I tell Liz that I am going to marry you. I kiss you at midnight, and pass out shortly after we return home. We eat boiled cabbage first thing in the morning, and then Liz prepares the meal to end all meals. We nap the rest of the day. -
Terrible Weather!
Oh, that midwestern weather. It seems that for weeks we're pummeled by feet of snow every other day. Oh, and lots of ice. We can't see each other as much and tension ensues. I must love you from afar. -
Valentine's Day
It's our first Valentine's Day, and I'm excited to take you to one of my favorite places in Cedar Rapids -- Vino's and RG Books. You look absolutely stunning, and of course I mess everything up by being a douche. Sorry. -
Adam Joins Facebook
In honor of our 8 month anniversary, I start up a Facebook profile, so you can link to me under "relationship". I don't admit that I am addicted until weeks later. -
Brie Begins Von Maur
Brie begins her second job; I try to help as much as I can, including coming to visit you after work with a good meal. Even if we stare at the television like zombies. It's just good to see you at night. -
Brie Quits Von Maur!
Brie finally quits VM. I've never seen you happier (well, maybe after sex). -
The One Year Anniversary of the Pre-Date
We celebrate the one year anniversary of of our pre-date with a nice, laid back dinner and cuddling up for a good movie (not Enchanted, unfortunately). I love you very much!
