The Guzenko Affair
In 1945, Igor Gouzenko of the Soviet Embassy in Canada asked the Canadian Government for Protection from the Soviet in exchange for proof of spy rings residing in Canada. After providing 109 documents on Soviet espionage activities in the West, Gouzenko and his family were put under the protection of the RCMP. The Gouzenko Affair is often considered as the Events which triggered the Cold War. -

The UN was created in 1945 after World War II in order to replace the the League of Nations. The United Nations was created to facilitate international Laws, International security, Economic development, Social progress, Human Rghts, stop wars,and carry out Peace Missions. -

The Berlin Airlift
When Western powers introduced new currency in West Berlin, the Soviet counterattacked the new currency by blockading the transportation corridor. The blockade prevented supplies from reaching the west of Berlin. In order to give the West of Berlin Supplies for over 2.5 million people, massive airlifts flew into Berlin for 15 months. One plane landed every two minutes in Berlin. As a result of the Berlin Airlift Crisis, Western Allies formed the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, NATO. -
Canada Joins NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is a military alliance consisting of 14 Western Countries. It was set up largely to discourage the attacks of the Soviet Union on Countries that were not run by Communist. Canada joined NATO in 1949.
