French and Indian War
It was caused by a land struggle between the French, Indian, and British. This affected the American Revolution because we gained the land we would later be fightng for. -
Sugar Act
The Sugar Act raised the taxes on molasses, sugar, coffee, indigo, and wine to help pay for the French and Indian War. It affected the colonists because they suffered economic losses. -
Currency Act
The currency act prohibited the American colonies from issuing paper currency. This offset the economy and hurt trade. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act put taxes on printed materials to help pay for British troops. In turn, they boycotted the motherland, ultimately hurting both economies. -
Townshend Act
The Townshend Act raised revenue, but it is slightly contoversial. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a riot that split the British and the colonists even further apart. Five civilians were killed. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was the result of taxed tea opposition. They proceeded to dump the tea into the harbor. -
Continental Congress
The Continental Congress met in Philadelphia. There, they made the decsion to economically boycott Great Britain and petition the King. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
This was the first military engagement of the American Revolutionary War. As a result, the colonists unity was strengthened and Britain suffered a loss. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
At the Battle of Bunker Hill, colonists fought off the British when the attempted to seize Boston. The British ultimately won, but not before suffering great losses. -
Declaration of Independence
This document was signed by John Hancock and John Adams. -
Battle of Brandywine
The British captured Chad's Ford, which left Philadelphia defensless making it an easy British victory. -
Articles of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation set the rules for the United State's operation of confederation. -
Treaty of Peace
This treaty gave the United States all land east of the Mississippi and south of the Great Lakes, excluding Florida. Through this, we gained land, ended war, and gained independence. -
After the American Revolution
After the American Revolution we became a self-relient nation. The majority of the colonists were happy because their persistent acts of rebellion had finally paid off
