  • DAY OF REVOLT

    Nationwide protests against Eqyptian government or President Hosni Mubarak begins.
  • SHUTTING DOWN THE INTERNET

    Mass demonstrations were planned on Facebook and Twitter so the government shut down the internet. Protests became more heated and live bullets were shot at demonstrators.
  • FRIDAY OF RAGE

    HUndreds of thousands, joined by opposition leader Mohammed ElBaradei, travel to Cairo to participate. Egyptian government orders army to assist the police.
  • CURFEW!

    Although a curfew was instituted, the protests continued throughout the night. Military refused to helpthe government and would not obey orders to shoot the protestors.
  • MUBARAK ON TV

    Mubarek appears on TV offering several concessions. He said he would not run for president again and said he would make reforms. He said he wanted to stay in office to make sure there eas a peaceful transition Pro Mubarak and Anti Mubarak groups fight in the square.
  • BATTLE OF THE CAMEL

    Violence breaks out as pro Mubarak protestor ride through Tharir square on Camels shooting and stabbing Anti Mubarak protestors. Violence believed to be orchestrated by government. Mubarak tells several newspapers that he will NOT step down.
  • United Nations

    UN reports that over 300 people have been killed by gunmen firing on protestors.
  • NEGOTIATIONS/ACCUSATIONS

    Christians hold Sunday Mass in Tahrir Square surrounded by a protective ring of Muslims. Negotiations begin between Vice President Suleiman and Mubarak representatives. Egyptian Army protects the Museums and all the riches inside. Mubarak accuses nations, including the United States, of interferring too much in Egypts affairs.
  • STILL NOT STEPPING DOWN!

    Mubarak sets up two committees to make changes to the constitution. Opposition says that little progress has been made.
    Stock market remains closed.
  • NO ONE WILL BE HURT!

    Vice President Suleiman says Egypt will set a timetable for a peaceful transition. He promises that no protestors will be punished.
  • I'LL JUST STAY A LITTLE BIT LONGER!

    Mubarak speaks to the people, who are expecting his resignation, but says he will delegate some of his power to Vice President Suleiman and that he will remain as the head of the country. Protestors go crazy and demonstrations are widespread.
  • FRIDAY OF DEPARTURE

    At 6pm, Suleiman announces Mubarak's resignation and says that the Supremem Council of Egyptian Armed Forces will take over the leadership of the country.
  • CELEBRATE!

    People celebrate in Tahrir Square all night long...
  • CONSTITUTION SUSPENDED

    Supreme Council of Egyptian Armed Forces dissolved Egypt's parliament and suspend the Constitution. They also tell the people that they will rule for about six minths or until the elections are held to elect a new leader.
  • COMMUNIQUE #5

    Military leadership issues Communique # 5, calling for national solidarity and asking people to stop protesting. The communique asks the people to go back to work to revive the economy.
  • AHMED SHARIK

    Ahmed Sharik, steps down as Prime Minister and is replaced by Essam Sharaf
  • EVIDENCE OF TORTURE

    Protestors see cells in which activists were detained videotaped and tortured by Mubarrak.
  • REFERENDUM

    A constitutional referendum was held and passed by 77% vote.
  • NO MORE PROTESTS!

    Egyptian Cabinet orders a law criminalizing protests and strikes. Anyone organizing a protest will be fined and jailed.
