Walter Raleigh told Simon Fernadez to gather over 100 people and bring them to Chesapeake Bay. Raleigh decided to make John Smith in charge. Instead of settling in Chesapeake Bay, Raleigh demanded to go to Roanoke Island. They settled there for awile ,but when John White came back with supplies ,nobody was there! They had dissapeared, but the word "CROATOAN" was carved into a tree. . . -
The Mayflower
Oceanus Hopkins parents, went exploring on a ship to the new world. They wen't there for religious freedom. Then a storm hit , and landed at cape cod. Though they wanted to Jamestown, Virgina. Cape Cod had bad weather, no food, and diseases. Then Native Americans showed up and showed them how to collect food. They had no starvation anymore. So after that they decided to celebrated Thanksgiving! -
New York
New York City was found on 1626. The land was found by Peter Minuit. It was originally going to be called New Amsterdam, but changed it to New York. Peter Minuit got the land from native Americans. People had came to New York because, it had fertile soil. -
The New World
William Penn got land from King Charles II because he owed his father a loan. He tought about calling it Sylvania, but ended up calling it Pennsylvania. Many people came to the new world because it granted everyone freedom and faieness. -
New Hampshire
New Hampshire was found on June 21,1778. It was founded by John Mason and Sir Ferdinando Gorges. John Mason named New Hampshire because he came from Hampshire County, England. Many people came to New Hampshire because it's natural resources. For example, abundant fish, fertile soil, and it was easy to get across the ocean from Europe. -
Delaware
Delaware was found on December 7,1787. It was found by Peter Minuit and New Sweden Company. Delaware was named after Delaware River. People came to Delaware for religious freedom. Sweden people came to make money ,by trading. -
Maryland
Maryland was found on April 28,1788. George Calvert, Lord Baltimore, and other colonists found Maryland. They found Maryland at Baltimore. People had came to Maryland because their soil was fertile. -
Virginia
Virginia was named after England's "Virgin Queen" which was Elisabeth I. Many people live there because of their cash crop tobacco , and because of their silk cultivation. Virginia was also known for "The birthplace of a nation." It was found on June 25, 1788. -
Massachusetts
Massachusetts was found on February 06,1788. Massachusetts was found by John Winthrop and some Puritans. People came to Massachusetts because they had religious freedom. -
Rhode Island
Rhode Island was found on May 29,1790. Rhode Island was found by Roger Williams. Roger Williams was originally going to call it "Roodt Eylandt" by Adrian Block. It meant "Red Island."
