John White Returns to Roanoke and Finds it Deserted
White returned to Roanoke after fighting the Spanish in England for three years. When he returned, the entire poputation was gone, including his wife and children. The only sign was the word "Croatan" carved in a tree. It is still not known what happened to them. -

The House of Bergnesses is created. It was made up of twenty-two men. It was started in Jamestown, Virginia. -

Rhode Island is Founded By Rodger Williams
After being kicked out of Massachusetts for his belief in the seperation of the church and the state, Williams went to live with the Narragansett Indians. He formed Providence, which is now the capital of Rhode Island. -

With the Duke of York in control of the former Dutch trading post, he renamed it New York. The city the Dutch called Amsterdam became New York City -
William Penn Sets up in the New World
William Penn set up in a area that they called Pennsylvania. He had a good relationship with the Native Americans. Pennsylvania was a very inportant distribution center.
