Jamestown, Virginia founded
Jamestown was the first settlement in Virginia. Jamestown was established by the Virginia Company. The expedition consisted of three boats called the Susan Constant, the Godspeed, and the Discovery, these boats combined carried 104 men and boys. -
Pilgrims/Separatists land; Mayflower Compact signed
The Mayflower began it's journey to the new world in July, 1620. The Mayflower Compact was signed by 41 Men aboard the Mayflower on November 11th, 1620. This document made the colonist abide by any laws or regulations to be made for the good of the colony. -
Establishment of Massachusetts Bay Colony
Massachusetts Bay Colony was founded by the Massachusetts Bay Company. In April 1630 Puritans, and the company's stock holders set sail to the New World. They took a fleet of 12 ships to reach the New World. The Puritans settled in Charlestown. -
Boston: the City on the Hill
In 1630 Puritan colonists founded Boston. John Winthrop was the governor of Boston. Winthrop described the new colony as the City upon a Hill. The American Revolution exploded in Boston, because of the Boston Tea Party. -
Anne Hutchinson banished from Massachusetts
Anne Hutchinson banished three years after her arrival. In 1638 she was excommunicated from the Boston church. She was accused of errors of religious opinions and convicted of conspiracy and of undermining the most central tenets of the church. -
Navigation Acts
The Navigation Acts were laws that restricted use of trading only to England ships. This angered many colonist because of the tariffs being placed on the items. Colonist started smuggling in traded goods from other country's. -
Bacon’s Rebellion
Bacon’s Rebellion was an armed rebellion in 1676 by Virginia colonist's. The colonist's were angered with the Governors policy's. Indians started fighting the colonists on the western frontier. This caused an uprising against Berkeley because he was not addressing the needs of colonists regarding safety concerns. -
Locke's Two Treatises of Government published
John Locke's first treaties defended the theory of divine rights of kings. He's second treaties begins by defining political power. -
Salem Witch Trials
Massachusetts, claimed to be possessed by the devil and accused several women of witchcraft. Bridget Bishop was the first convicted witch, and was hung in June. 150 men and women were accused of witchcraft, but only 19 were convicted and hung. -
New Orleans established
New Orleans was founded by the French. The expeditions of De Soto and La Salle pass through the area. But in 1718 the governor of French Louisiana, founded the city of Nouvelle-Orléans. United States bought the land in 1803 through the Louisiana Purchase. -
Indentured servitude
Indentured servitude is an employee who is made to work by a signed of forced contract. Indentured servitude usually enter the contract to pay off debt. After completion of the contract Indentured servitude were given freedom. -
Religious revivals
New England and the Middle Atlantic and south experienced a surge in religious fervor. The rivals of the period were started by Johnathan Edwards.
