George Calvert is the founder of Maryland
He started it because he wanted to be wealthy and get rich. He also wanted to believe and worship his own beliefs which he could not do in England. -
Rhode Island
Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson started this colony.
They started it because they wanted to be free in believeing their own religion. -
Connecticut
Thomas Hooker started the Connecticut colony.
He started it because he did not agree with the rules of the Puritan church and all people should vote even if they did not go to church. -
North Carolina
Eight proprietors started North Carolina.
They started the colony because they wanted money. -
South Carolina
Eight proprietors started tis colony. It used to be North Carolina and South Carolina combined into what used to be Carolina, but it was to big for those eight to handle so they split it up so it wasn't to much. -
New Jersey
Lord John Berkeley and Sir George Carteret started the New Jersey colony.
They started it because it was given to them as a gift. -
New York
Peter Stuyvesant started New York but it was called New Netherland. He was the ruler and King George wanted the entire east coast. So he sent three ships over and the people gave them the land right away. -
New Hampshire
John Mason started this colony.
He started it because he like THomas HOoker disagreed with the strict rules of the Puritan church and believed that people should be free to worship in their own way. -
Delaware
William Penn also started the Delaware colony.
He was so sucessful with the Pennsylvania colony that he asked if could expand. His wish was granted and he started Delaware. -
Pennsylvannia
William Penn started the Pennsylvannia colony.
He started it because he wanted people to be free to believe in their own religoin ,and worship ,and read the bible in their own way. -
Georgia
James Oglethorpe founded Georgia.
The reason he did it was to help debtors get a new start in life instead of going to jail.
