    Trumans Executive Orders
    On July 26, 1948, President Harry S. Truman signed this executive order establishing the President's Committee on Equality of Treatment and Opportunity in the Armed Services, committing the government to integrating the segregated military.

    The Civil Rights Act of 1957 was introduced in Eisenhower’s presidency and was the act that started the civil rights legislative program that was to include the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

    The 1964 Civil Rights Act made racial discrimination in public places, such as theaters, restaurants and hotels, illegal. It also required employers to provide equal employment opportunities. Projects involving federal funds could now be cut off if there was evidence of discriminated based on colour, race or national origin.
