Anthony Johonson time line

  • Period: to

Anthony Johonson and his childern's life

Here are 5 events that I think are very impotant to Anthony Johonson and his children's life. These five events showed demolishing progress.
  • Court Case C Anthony returns to court over John Casar

Court Case C Anthony returns to court over John Casar
This is a very important court case, because this is where Anthony Johnson (Black) takes Mr. Robert Parker (white) to court and wins against him. This was rare in his time because white men where dominant. White men always had the upper hand in court because they were more respected.
  • Act IV 1670 Negroes and Indians can't buy christian sevants

Act IV 1670 Negroes and Indians can't buy christian sevants
This law makes it harder to grow your crops. If you were a free slave like Anthony Johnson who owned land, it is hard to maintain your property with out any help. This really puts pressure on free African American or Indians to keep growing crops. This law makes it harder to survive.
  • Act VIII 1672 Can kill negroes who resist arrest

Act VIII 1672 Can kill negroes who resist arrest
This law ensures that any African American or Indian that resist arrest may be harmed or killed. This law affects Negroes.
  • Act VI 1699 Hog Stealing

    Act VI 1699 Hog Stealing
The hog stealing law makes everything worse. The slaves are hungry and the owners want to save money so they barely feed them. The slaves will get very hungry and try to steal a hog to eat. That’s where this law comes in. The white men had a problem with hog stealing, or this law would be a waste. If an African or Indian stole one, they would be punished badly. They would get nails hammered through there ears and then get there ears cut off as close to the nail as possible.
  • Act IV 1705 African and Indians can't hold office

Act IV 1705 African and Indians can't hold office
This law is very important because if African Americans and Indians can't hold office how will they earn money. If they are free they want to stay free but, if they become an indentured servant they "belong" to someone again. The white men were afraid if an African American or an Indian held office they would have power, then they would have a say which laws were passed. This law really takes away any chance they had left to survive.
