Compulsory school attendance laws were made in order to make kids go to school so they could become a benefit to society. -
National Grange
This movement was made by farmers that helped force railways to lower their charges for hauling farm products. -
Women's Suffrage
Industrialization caused many women to work in factories in bad conditions. Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Stanton founded the Nation Woman Suffrage Association which helped women on their way to equal rights. -
Farmer's Alliance
This alliance helped try to end the crop-lien system that so many farmers had fallen into. -
Factory Reform
Goods produced by Amerca dramatically rose in the 1870's, which made more factories being built for more manufacturing. This called for more people to work, which then lead to the founding of the American Federation of Labor. This made working conditions in factories better. -
Forest Reservation Act of 1891
Industrialization was cutting away at the forests and lands of America. This reservation act set aside forsets for national parks and other recreational activities. -
Populist Party
The Populist party was formed in order to keep agrarian societies around. The farmers that founded this political party saw that industrialization was taking over the once dominant agrarian society. -
The Carey Act of 1894
This act distributed federal lands to certain states of the West. This act tried to help the West industrialize, but was not very effective. -
Tenement House Inspection
Industrialization brought many people to the city which made the cities over-populated. Small dwellings called tenements were home to many poor people in crowded cities. The Tenement House Inspection helped get the tenements a little bit healthier. -
Mining Protest
More industrialization meant more steel, which in turn meant more miners. This made the miners work in very, if not already, tough conditions for long periods of time. The miners went on strike and made a compromise with their employers for better wages and less hours per day.
