    Supreme Court decision that overturned the Plessy vs. Ferguson decision. Led by Chief Justice Earl Warren, the Court ruled that "separate but equal" schools for blacks were inherently unequal and thus unconstitutional. The decision energized the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s.

Kennedy argued that the nation faced serious threats from the soviets and Nixon countered that the US was on the right track under the current administration. In the popular vote, JFK's margin over Nixon was 118,550 out of a total of 69 million votes cast. Kennedy was the youngest man ever elcted president.

Dr. King was killed by James Earl Ray, who was an escaped convict that escaped a Missouri Prison. The death of America’s leading civil rights advocate sparked a wave of rioting in the black communities of several cities around the country.
