Brown v. Board Of Education
This was a U.S. Supreme Court case in which the Court ruled separate public schools for black and white students to be unconstitutional. This decision overturned the Plessy vs. Ferguson case in 1896 that made it legal. The ruling sparked the Civil Rights Movement.

Emmett Till Murdered
Emmett Till was only 14 years old when two white men killed him for "allegedly" whistling at a white woman. He was killed horrifically and his murderers walked free with no charges. This sparked the civil rights movement to demand immediate equality.

Vietnam War
This war was caused by Vietnam's desire for freedom from colonial rule. On the other hand U.S. wanted to get involve to stop the spread of communism. Three presidents were involved with Vietnam; Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon. The end result was Vietnam winning and Americans retreating. Lasted from November 1, 1955 till April 30, 1975.

Civil Rights Act of 1957

NASA stands for the National Aeronautic and Space Administration. It was created in 1958 to keep up with the Soviets in the Space Race. Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the bill creating NASA.

First Televised Presidential Debates
Democratic Senator John F. Kennedy and Republican Vice President Richard M. Nixon face each other in a nationally televised presidential campaign debate. This debate started an era in which television would take over political campaigns. JFK won the debates due to appeal to Americans on television.

This march in Washington was led by civil rights leaders in an attempt to force congress to pass a civil rights bill. 200,000 - 300,000 people attended this well known march. Also this is where civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr gave his famous "I Have a Dream Speech".

John F. Kennedy Assasination
The 35th president JFK was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald in a political parade in Texas. Lyndon B. Johnson was soon sworn in as the 36th president. He was left with the responsibility of the Vietnam War. In 1964 a national commission headed by Chief Justice Warren concluded that Oswald was the lone assassin. This was known as the "Warren Report".
