Opening of Foreman Field Stadium
Built on $300,000 in funds from the Public Works Administration, Norfolk residents, and William & Mary, Foreman Field becomes Virginia's state-of-the-art facility. -
Lights Out at Foreman
Lights are installed at the field to allow for night games. Yet, the Norfolk Division of William & Mary (later ODU) discontinues football because of finacial losses. -
Annual Oyster Bowl Begins
From 1946-1995, Foreman Field was home to the Oyster Bowl. A game featuring major college football teams. -
Syracuse vs Army
Syracuse and Navy square off in a game in a game featuring two Heisman Trophy winners – Ernie Davis and Joe Bellino. Syracuse defeated Navy 32-6 on their way to winning the National Championship. -
Redskins on Display
Beginning in 1960, and ending in 1970, Foreman Field was host to annual NFL exhibition games. The Washington Redskins were featured in nine of the games. -
Norfolk Neptunes Arrive
Andy Nelson was the coach of the Norfolk Neptunes (a semi-pro team) who played their home games at Foreman Field from the 1965-1971 to crowds of over 18,000. -
"Broadway Joe" at Foreman
Future Hall of Fame quarterback, Joe Namath, and the New York Jets play the Boston Patriots in an AFL exhibition game at Foreman Field. -
Norfolk's Woodstock
A crowd of over 35,000 comprised of ODU students, Norfolk locals and other music fans, fill Foreman Field for a concert featuring Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. -
Face-lift for Forman
ODU concentrates on improving and expanding their athletic facilities. They allocate funds to outfitting Forman Field with Astroturf and new alluminum bleachers. Forman becomes home to ODU women's lacrosse and field hockey. -
Norfolk Fall Music Festival
The City of Norfolk and ODU work utilizing Forman Field for more events. The first year of the festival, The Foo Fighters and 98 Degrees headline the performers. -
Renovations
S.B. Ballard Construction begins giving Foreman Field a $24.8 million renovation in preparation for football returning to ODU in 2009. The additions included a Astroturf Gameday Grass, 26 luxury suites, and 30-foot-wide video board. -
First Game
ODU defeats Chowan University 36-21 in the first football game at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballad Stadium. The field's 19,782-seat capacity will be one of the largest in the Colonial Athletic Association once ODU begins play in the conference in the fall of 2011.
