Dance Marathon
The University of Iowa's 14th annual Dance Marathon raised a record-breaking $1,003,646.14 this weekend, almost $4,000 more than its goal of $1 million and $120,000 above last year's receipts of $880,000. More than 1,500 UI students participated in the event Friday to Saturday, Feb. 1-2, at the Iowa Memorial Union.

Fraternal Order of Eagles pledges to raise $25 million for UI diabetes research
Leaders of The Fraternal Order of Eagles, the University of Iowa and the University of Iowa Foundation today announced a $25 million gift commitment from the Eagles that will fund diabetes research at the UI.

Iowa City designated City of Literature
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has designated Iowa City, Iowa, the world's third City of Literature, making the community part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. -
UI organizes flood clean-up project over spring break
Hundreds of homes in Cedar Rapids remain in poor condition after the June 2008 floods, and the University of Iowa community's help is needed to clean out and refurbish these structures over spring break. The University of Iowa is organizing alternative spring break service project to do post-flood cleanup in Cedar Rapids, joining volunteers from across Iowa and the rest of the nation.
