The Beginning...(Cuban Blockade/Missile crisis)
President kennedy was informed of the missile build-up. Ex Comm formed. -

Cuban Missile Crisis
The outline of the Missile Crisis in Cuba! :) -
The Decision to bolckade Cuba
Saturday: American President John. F. Kennedy decides to blockade Cuba. -
The Anouncement...(of the Blockade)
Monday: Kennedy finaly announces the Blockade and calls for the withdrawal of Soviet Missiles. 'I call on chairman Khrushchev to halt and eliminate this reckless and provocative threat to world peace... he has the oportunity now to move the world back from the abyss of destruction... withdrawing these weapons form Cuba.' -
The Letter (Khrushchev's response to the anouncement)
Tuesday: Kennedy gets a letter from the Soviet leader Khrushchev saying that he'll ignore American ships because he doesn'ta dmit to having missiles on Cuba. -
The Blockade Begins....(Soviet ships turn around)
Wednesday: The first missile-carring ships and subs reached the 500-mile (800km) blockade around Cuba, then at 10:32 a.m. they just stopped/turned around. -
Missile bases continue developing...despite previous incident
Thursday: American aerial photography revealed that despite the turning around of the missile-carrying ship the progress of the missile bases was proceeding quickly. -
NEW Letter from Khrushchev...
Kennedy recieves a very long and personal letter directly from Khrushchev where he assures that he has no intention of using the missiles on Cuba, they should be purely defensive. But... it goes on:
' If assurances were given that the USA would not participate in an attack on Cuba and the blockade was lifted, then the question of the removal or the destruction of the MISSILE sites would be an entirely different question.' THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME HE ACTUALLY ADMITTED TO CUBA HAVING MISSILES!! -
Yet another letter...
Khrushchev sent JFK a new letter. He says that the only condition for removing nuclear warheads from Cuba is that the USA removes their weapons from Turkey, something JFK can't do.
Kennedy ignores khrushchev's last letter and sends him a new letter saying:
-That he accepts the terms proposed on the 26th OCT.(??)
and...
-That if the USSR does not withdraw then an attack WILL follow! -
Attack?
An American U-2 plane is shot over cuba, killing the pilot. JFK is advised to launch an attack on Cuba, but he delays it. -
The Reply... (The end of the Missile Crisis)
From khrushchev:
'In order to eliminate as rapidly as possible the conflict which endangeres the cause of peace... the Soviet Government has given a new order to dismantle the arms which you described as offensive and to crate and return them to the Soviet Union' This meant that Kennedy had won this battle, he proved himself stong, and didn't back down. Now the warheads would be dismatled, crated and shiped back to where they "belong". Cuba would no longer pose a threat to the USA!
