Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and his wife Sophie, were in the Bosnian city with Austrian troop nearby. The couple was returning from an official visit to City Hall. The assassin, 19-year-old Gavrilo Princip despised Slavic nationalism. He believed the death of the Archduke was the key to unlock the shackles binding his people to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. -

The ship departed from New York City bounded towards LIverpool on May 1. When the ship neared the coast of Ireland, a German torpedo slammed into her side. It sank in 18 minutes and 1924 abroad died, including 114 Americans.The death of the Americans caused a US-German crisis. -
Battle of Jutland

War ceases at 11 a.m. A ceremony was held in the US to remember the sacrifices made by men and women during the war. It also celebrated the living who had served wiht Vetern's parades and political speeches. It is also celebrated in France and Great Britain.
