The French and Indain War
In North America, Britain and France all claimed the Ohio River Vally. British settlers wanted to farm the rich soil there. The French wanted to trap beavers so that they could trade their furs.In 1754 the argument over Ohio Vally turned into a war.The war lasted almost 10 years.In 1759 when British troops captured the city of Quebec in Canada and in 1762 they asked for peace. In 1763 a peace tready gave Britain control of Canada. -
The Proclamation of 1763
After the French and Indian War, many British moved west, the land that Britian had won from the French. Native Amercians were afraid that this movement would destroy there way of life. Some of them tride to drive the settlers away by attacking their houses. To stop the fighting and to protect the colonists, Britain announced a law called The Proclamation of 1763. the law said that Native Americans could have all the land west of the Appalachian Mountains and that settlers couldn't move there. -
The Sugar Act
Colonial merchants had been required to pay a tax of six pence per gallon on the important of forgen molasses. But because of corrupation they mostly evaded the taxes and undercut the invention of the tax that the English product would be cheaper than that from the French and West Indies. -
The Quartering Act
The British were afraid that Native Americans or Spanish settlers in Florida might attack the colonies. Britian thought thatthe colonists should help to pay for this army. As a result in 1765 a new law called The Quartering Act was passed by the British Parliament. -
The Stamp Act
After the Fernch and Indian War, Britan needed money to pay debts.They also needed to pay the soldiers who remained in America.British leaders thought that colonists should help pay for troops who were protecting them.In 1765 Parliament passed a new tax law called The Stamp Act.This said that the colonists would have to pay a tax on printed papers. -
The Boston Massacre
British soliders were still living in colonists towns and cities. Soldiers were standing gard infront of the Customs house (a building where taxes were collected) and a croud gathered and people started throwing rocks and snowballs. One of the soldiers said that he heard the command "fire" and so he shot his gun into the croud and five people got shot. -
Tea Act
Britain made a law that said that the colonists could only buy tea from one company, and that company had very high taxes. -
Boston Tea
Colonist were angry about the taxes and also they were mad that they could only buy tea from one place. A couple colonist dressed up as Native American's and dumped thousands of tea boxes into the ocean. -
Boston Port Act
The British closed the port so nothing could come in or out of the port. -
The Introlerable Act
After the Boston Tea Party, Parliament decided to punish the colonists by passing several new laws the laws were so harsh that many colonist said they could not except them. They called the new laws the introlerable act. In September 1774 , 12 leaders from colonies gathered in Philadelphia to discuss the problems with Britan, because this meeting included almost all of the colonists on the North American continent, it was called the First Continental Congress.
