USA Involvement in the Olympics
The USA Join in the Olympic Games in 1896. 12 Years after they hosted their first olympic games the USA hosted them again in Atlanta. While people gathered for a concert, a man named Eric Robert Rudolph planted four bombs around the area. 2 people died and 111 were injured. -
The First Great Baseball Game
In June 1846 The first baseball game to be recorded and have a rule set occured. It featured The New York Knickerbockers hosting the New York 9's. -
Lou Gehrig
Lou Gehrig, The Iron Horse (Jun 19, 1903- Jun 2, 1941) was an American baseball player for the New York Yankees. He was known for his .313 BA and his astonishing 2,130 consecutive games played, and perhaps the best 1st baseman ever, But he was most commonly known as the toughest player. It was estimated that he broke 13 bones in his body during his baseball career and never told anyone because he didnt want to sit out a game. He died from a fatal neurological disease. -

The Intercollegiate Athletic Association of the United States (IAAUS) was etsablished by Theodore Roosevelt when his son broke his nose playing football. It was established to set rules and guidelines for Collegiate sports. Later changed to NCAA -

Orginally called Blue Ribbon Sports, now called Nike which means 'Victory'. The company switched its name from Blue Ribbon Sports to Nike in 1978 when they were gaining popularity. Founded by Bill Bowerman and Philip Knight -
Gatorade
In early 1965 Dr. Robert Cade, Dr. Dana Shires, Dr. H. James Free and Dr. Alejandro de Quesada were examining the Florida Gators football players. After a couple weeks of research they saw that the players were losing fluids and electolyte's and were not gaining them back. So the scientist's developed a drink to replenish the players of the things they were losing. Word quickly spread across they US and popularity skyrocketed. Named because it "Aid's" the "gators" -

On June 23rd, 1972 a law passed in congressed called the Patsy T. Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act. It ended discrimination based on sex. It is commonly referred to as Title IX
