Magna Carta
ID: A group of determind barons forced King John to sign the Magna Carta, the great charter. SIG: The Magna Carta protected against the arbitary taking of life, liberty and property. -
The Mayflower Compact
ID: This document include the new laws for the general good.
SIG: The colonists wanted to seek freedom from the government because they felt they were treated unfairly. -
The Petition of Rights
ID: The Petition of Rights limited the kings pwer in several ways. The king couldnt impose martial law also, the citizens didnt have to house the kings soldiersif they didnt want to.
SIG: The petition of Rights changed the idea of kings, it declared that even a monarch must obey the laws of the land. -
The Navigation Acts
A series of laws that restricted trade with foreign countries. The main purpose was tho block english and scottish markets. The government tried to make all trades go through england first.
SIG: england did this to colonize their land. Since all items had to be inspected, england raised taxes, the cost of merchendise, and the shipping time. -
The English Bill of Rights
ID: This document laws down the limits on sovereign. It sets out rights of freedom of speech.
SIG: The parliment wanted to defend the laws and make sure thet are still set. -
The Proclomation of 1763
ID: This proclomation kept the colonists from going west. This made the colonists upset because they wanted the reasources the west had to offer.
SIG: The British tried to make peace between the indians and the colonists. -
The Sugar Act
ID: The British passed the sugar act wich reduced the tax for molasses by half and increasing measures to enforce tax, the British hoped tax would be collected.
SIG: These incident increased the concers for the colonists about the British parliment and helped the growing movement towards the american revalution. -
The Stamp Act
ID: This law required the use of stamps on all legal documents. this act also required a small tax that went with all documents.
SIG: This was the first time the colonists opposed the British government. The tax paid also helped protect America. -
The Boston Tea Party
ID: Since tea was being controled, taxes kept adding up. When british officials didnt send over tea, The colonists were furious. so they climed on the boat and threw all the tea overboard.
SIG: This showed that the colonists were done tolerating Britians taxing. when they dumped the tea overboard, it showed that the colonists didnt want to pay for anymore taxes. -
The Coercive Acts
ID: Cauton has been risibg in the parliment. The colonists didnt want to follow the guidence of the parliment so the parliment came up with the Coercive acts.
SIG: The acts were made to regain the trust of the colonists and fix what happend in the boston tea party. -
First Continental Congress
ID: A convection of 12 out of 13 delgates from the 13 colonies. It was a response to the Coercive Acts.
SIG: The delegates wanted to stop the punishments from the boston tea party. -
The First Shots Fired at Lexington and Concord
ID: The British went to sieze wepons from an armoury but hey didnt find wepons, they found colonists.
SIG: The British wanted to show they had the power by fighting the colonists. -
The Second Continental Congress
ID: A convection of the delegates from the 13 colonies. The government wanted to manage the war effort.
SIG: Since the colonists dont trust the colonists they wanted to regain the independance for the colonies. -
The Decloration of Independance
ID: A document stating the natural right of the colonists.
SIG: The colonists wanted to break away from britian.
