Magna Carta
The significance of the Magna Carte was that it provided protection against arbitrary taking of life, libery and property. -
Mayflower Compact
This was the first establishment of a written laws in the new colonies. This also set the first boundaries for the new worlds people. -
Petition of Rights
The king does not have supreme power over everyone and everyone is more equal to each other. The Petition of Rights protected a dictatorship from being formed. -
Navigation Act
The british were trying to keep power of the colonies by managing the trade in and out of the ports in the colonies.This helped the british keep goods inside their market instead of all around the world. -
English Bill of Rights
The English Bill of Rights was created to prtect the colonists but to also have a handle on what the colonists can and cannot do in their colonies. -
Proclamation of 1763
The French gave the British more land therefore providing more land for the colonists to settle on. -
Stamp Act
This tax was one of the first taxes put on the people to make money. This idea did not settle well with the colonists. The cost was small but the impact was large. -
Boston Tea Party
This was a rebellion by the free colonists of America against the British showing that the taxes were rediculous. This caused the seperation between the colonists and Britian that was a strong lead towards independance for America. -
Coercive act
The intolerable acts were a way for the British to try to control the thirteen colonies. These acts infuriated the colonists and provided more fuel for the fire to gain independance. -
First Continental Congress
The importance of these meetings were to regulate the resistance of Great Britian and also to be able to communicate easily with nearby towns. -
Lexington and Concord
these battles were the kickoff of the Revolutionary War being the first physical retaliation by the colonists against the British. these actions were signals to Britian saying that the colonists were ready to fight. -
Second Continental Congress
this was where the decision was made to declare independance from Britian. If the congress had not made that decision the U.S. would be a very different place. -
Decleration of Independance
The Decleration of Independance is the most important thing in U.S. history. It declared our independance from Britian. The Decleration was written mostly by Thomas Jefferson due to his writing ability.
